Annual General Meeting and Wine Talk 2025

Our Annual General Meeting for 2025 took place on March 24th in St James Church Centre. The Chair, Cindy Bentley, welcomed members. Doug Masterton was unanimously re-elected as Honorary President, Cindy was re-elected for another year as Chair and Kazia Knight as Secretary. Norma Harrington and Dawn Payne were re-elected as members of the committee. Cindy gave the Treasurer’s report (as the Association currently has no Treasurer) as well as the Chair’s report. 2024 was the year of the Wetherby visit to Privas which was very successful as well as being enjoyable for the participants. The Association now needs to prepare for the return visit of a Privas delegation in 2026 and raise the appropriate amount of funding. As well as the Privas visit, the Association had held a post-Christmas social, a boules competition with Tadcaster Twinning and a sold-out Call My Wine Bluff event as part of the Wetherby Festival.

Following the conclusion of the AGM, John Butterwick gave another of his Wine Talks, this time involving 3 wines and matching cheeses. A 2023 Finest Floreal vin de France from Tesco was paired with a beautiful soft goat’s cheese, then came a 2023 Louis Jadot Beaujolais-Quincie from Waitrose matched with a melt in the mouth Brie and finally a 2022 Domaine de Leyrissat Monbazillac from Waitrose accompanied by a delicious Roquefort. All 3 cheeses were supplied by the Artisan Cheese Company located on The Shambles, Wetherby. John provided a long list of the best known French cheeses with suggested wines to accompany them.
